This week President Obama is in Paris attending the United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate Change. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke is hoping agriculture has a seat at the table in addressing climate change and is given credit for the work they’re already doing.
Sombke says one of the biggest challenges in making headway on climate change is the denial of the problem by the U.S. Congress.
He says there’s no doubt climate change is happening and there is solid evidence to support that premise in the region.
Sombke says efforts taken by the USDA are providing farmers with important tools to participate in climate change mitigation. Those include the Building Blocks for Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry, the Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership and Climate Hubs education initiatives.
