President Trump recently tweeted that the NAFTA renegotiation talks aren’t getting anywhere and it may be time to exit the agreement. South Dakota Corn Growers Association President Troy Knecht says the President’s rhetoric is damaging U.S. trade relations, particularly with Mexico which is now actively seeking other markets for its corn needs.

He says diplomacy is badly needed rather than trying to posture through social media.

Knecht also says the recent tweets don’t send a good signal to all of the United States’ important trading partners.

Last week Mexican officials stated they would not negotiate NAFTA through social media.
