The U.S. Senate has confirmed Greg (dowd) Doud as Chief Agricultural Trade Negotiator at U.S. Trade Representative’s Office. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Larry Stomprud says they’re pleased with the confirmation as Doud’s past experience will be helpful in the position.
He says the first trade item Doud needs to work on is the NAFTA renegotiation.
Stomprud says there are several other trade challenges including KORUS or the South Korean U.S. Free Trade Agreement and maybe even re-engaging in the Trans Pacific Partnership.
The Senate also approved Dennis Shea to be USTR’s top official at the World Trade Organization in Geneva, and C.J. Mahoney as deputy USTR responsible for trade in Africa, China and the Western Hemisphere.
