An interim South Dakota Legislative task force has been working to draw up maps, and determine election procedures for new, natural resource districts. The task force is working under a bill passed in the 2015 session.
Officials of current water districts are watching at a distance.
Dave Bartel is Manager of the James River Water Development District……….

Bartel says they aren’t clear what type of authority the new districts will have….

The natural resource districts are supposed to be based on drainage areas rather than county lines.
Bartel says it looks like it will be another layer of government dealing with water issues….

The task force is set to meet again next month.
