The Executive Board of the South Dakota Legislature approved a plan this week that would let voters decide if lawmakers should get a pay raise.
The bill that will go to the 2018 session would need a constitutional amendment to set legislative pay at twenty percent of the state median wage, or about ten thousand dollars.
E-Board member, Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton, says pay has not changed for quite a while……

Stevens says if the change is approved, the legislature could not set their own pay…..

Stevens says the current pay scale prevents a wider variety of people from running for the legislature…..

The legislature would have to approve the amendment, then voters woud have a say next November.
