The newly formed South Dakota Technical Education Board held their first meeting last week in Rapid City, and elected Dana Dykhouse of Sioux Falls as board president. Bob Faehn (fane) of Watertown was selected as vice president.

Dykhouse suggested an investment of up to ten million dollars was needed to help make tuition rates competitive.

Governor Dennis Daugaard, who spoke to the board, says they can help the schools refine their focus…..

T. Denny Sanford has donated twenty-five million dollars for tech school scholarships, matched by twenty-five million dollars from the state.
Daugaard says that was one step in reducing school costs…..

Daugaard says the money for scholarships will only go so far….

The board oversees the four technical schools in Sioux Falls, Watertown, Mitchell and Rapid City.
