SD Teachers Adapting to Common Core Standards

While federal rules dealing with education will change next year, most states will continue to move forward with “Common Core” academic standards.
Those are rules adopted by most of the states that lay out what students should know as the progress through the grades.
Mary McCorkle, President of the South Dakota Education Association says state teachers have had a lot of training on the common core standards, and are applying them in the classroom….

McCorkle says the common core standards are broad in nature, and help students learn to think through problems…..

McCorkle says teachers have a lot of latitude in applying the common core standards in the classroom…..

The standards have been challenged by state lawmakers in the past couple of legislative sessions and may be under fire again in the next session.
