SD Task Force Issues Recommendations on Mental Health

Better and timely mental health evaluations are critical to the criminal justice system.

Gilbertson put together a “Task Force on Community Justice and Mental Illness Early Intervention” to look at those issues.

The group issued its report last month. Gilbertson says there is a need to expand the group of people who can do mental evaluations…

Gilbertson says law enforcement in rural areas have some unique problems dealing with those issues…..

The group’s recommendations were delivered to Governor Dennis Daugaard and the legislature.
