The Substance Abuse Prevention Interim Study committee of the South Dakota legislature held their final meeting this week.
The committee had been assembled to look at the meth problem in the state, but expanded its scope to include prescription drug abuse issues.
Committee Vice Chair, Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton, says they all knew there was a problem when they began….
Stevens says they want to back a new drug education effort…
Stevens says they also focused on expanding the prescription drug registry….
Stevens says they heard “stunning” reports on the numbers of prescription drugs that were being circulated outside normal medical protocols.
