The 2019 South Dakota Legislative session was a successful one for Stockgrowers Association members. Executive Director James Halverson says besides getting the Truth in Labeling legislation passed and signed, they made headway on changing on how ag land assessments are determined.

He’s hoping next year’s legislature will change how ag land is assessed and change from determining it based on NRCS soils ratings to an actual land use method.

Halverson says they also were successful in getting some trespassing measures approved and made progress with a new Governor and new lawmakers.

Halverson says they’ll be working during the interim with the State Department of Revenue on the tax assessment issue.
