The 2016 South Dakota legislative session is in the books. The State Stockgrower’s Association members say overall it was a positive session for issues they supported. Association Executive Director Silvia Christen says headway was made on eminent domain concerns.
However, she says one of their losses was the failure to address the property tax valuation system.
Christen says another disappointment was the failure of legislators to override the Governor’s veto of the buffer law bill. She says that would have provided a tax break for grassland near waterways and addressed ag usage concerns.
Christen says they intend to work on changes to the valuation system during the 2017 session.
