At their recent convention, South Dakota Stock Growers Association members elected Mud Butte rancher Bill Kluck as their new President. They also adopted new policy including the call to repeal the national beef checkoff. Kluck says their members want repeal because they don’t believe checkoff funds are being used properly.

He says members also passed a new policy calling for more accountability for federal agencies. That stemmed from a U.S. Forest Service prescribed burn that led to the loss of several acres of pastureland.

Kluck says their membership also reiterated support for current policy that backs mandatory country of origin labeling.

Kluck served as Vice President of Stock Growers for the past two years and is also chairman of the Animal Health Committee.
