The State of South Dakota has sued four major internet retailers over their failure to pay state sales taxes. In turn, the state was taken to court by two internet trade groups. The legal action is based on a bill passed by this year’s legislature authorizing the collection of sales taxes on internet sales.

Lost sales taxes could range from forty to sixty million dollars a year. All the court action has been filed in Hughes County.
