A major issue left over from the 2016 South Dakota legislative session was the prospect of expanding Medicaid.
There has been some discussion of a special session, if the state and federal officials can reach agreement on a Medicaid waiver.
Dave Owen, President of the state Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it probably won’t happen soon…..

The state medical providers have been among those pushing for the expansion. Owen says many of those have been caught in-between the state and the federal government….

Owen says those providers will continue to push for the expansion….

The state has been working on a program involving the Indian Health Service along with Medicaid.
