A number of small South Dakota school districts had to juggle funds this year to make their teacher pay goals. That was the accountability part of the sales tax increase passed last year to fund teacher pay raises.

Swenson says the four hundred thousand dollar opt out that was passed in their district last spring will give them some cushion….
Legislators were able to find a three tenths of one percent increase for schools last year.
