The Congressional Budget Office is estimating that the federal deficit will top one trillion dollars by 2020, a gap that will widen since Congress cut taxes and increased spending.

South Dakota Senator John Thune says the tax cut bill is not the reason for the growing deficit…….

Thune says the tax bill will allow the economy to grow enough to begin correcting the deficit, which would then shift attention to Social Security and Medicare…..

Thune says Social Security and Medicare can be fixed without threatening those already getting payments…..

Thune says it may be time to begin means testing entitlement programs, which would cut back payments to those above a certain income.
