The South Dakota Senate voted 27 to 8 Wednesday to approve HB1069, a bill that repeals IM22, which was passed by voters last November.
The initiative created an ethics commission, public campaign financing, and limitations on lobbyists gifts to legislators.
Senate Majority Leader Blake Curd of Sioux Falls, says he would like to see the ethics reforms continue…
Curd says most of the measures provisions will come back in other bills…..
IM22 supporter Rick Weiland says legislators questioned the constitutionality of the measure, which won’t be tested now….
Weiland says legislators overstepped the will of the people….
Governor Dennis Daugaard says he supports the bill, and would sign it.
