The interim Senate Investigation committee of the South Dakota legislature met Friday to hear about the behavior and possible penalties for two Senators on the last day of the 2020 session.

Senator Phil Jensen of Rapid City filed a complaint that Senate Majority Leader Kris Langer of Dell Rapids and Senate President Pro Tem Brock Greenfield of Clark appeared to be drunk in the Capitol in the early morning of March 31st.

In a statement before the Committee, Langer apologized..

Greenfield also apologized….

One of the first witnesses was House Speaker Steven Haugaard of Sioux Falls….

Following the testimony, the Committee members debated possible punishments. A motion to censure the two was defeated and then a resolution of admonishment was approved on a 9 – 0 vote. The full Senate will have to vote on that committee recommendation.
