The South Dakota Friday approved a bill that would allow law enforcement agencies to release mug shots of people that have been arrested. South Dakota, along with Louisiana are the only two states that don’t allow those to be used by news media.
Senator Craig Kennedy, of Yankton says he is concerned about the misuse of those pictures……

Senator Stace Nelson of Fulton, one of the sponsors of the bill, said there are some safeguards in the bill…..

Democrats attempted to amend the bill to only allow the release of a mug shot after a conviction. That amendment was defeated.
The bill then passed on a twenty to twelve vote, and now moves onto the House.
