South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch announced Tuesday he’s leaving as head of the State Ag Department the end of next month. Lentsch says he’ll go to work in the private sector. He says he’s enjoyed his three years as State Ag Secretary serving farmers and the residents of South Dakota.
He says one of his best memories as Ag Secretary was how the state’s citizen’s pulled together to help ranchers devasted by the Atlas blizzard.
Lentsch says a big challenge South Dakota’s ag industry is facing is federal regulatory overreach from the EPA and the Clean Water Rule being debated in the courts.
Lentsch became South Dakota’s Ag Secretary in April of 2013 after serving as the Ag Department’s Director of Agriculture Development.
