The South Dakota Department of Agriculture will soon officially release the label and application rules for dicamba for 2018. State Secretary of Agriculture Mike Jaspers says they’ve decided to adopt the restricted use label established by EPA.
He says using a hypothetical example with typical South Dakota weather and a June 30 or R1 cutoff for dicamba application, there is only 5-percent of the time conditions will be ideal for spraying. So, he says they’re going to focus their attention on specialized training by the manufacturers.
Jaspers says one change that was not a state label condition for dicamba in 2017 is the restricted use reporting, but it will be mandated for the 2018 season.
He says they have been waiting to approve the label until they compiled data from the manufacturers on the use of the product, but the label will be forthcoming.
