Now that the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Education has wrapped up the main part of its mission, school districts across the state are waiting on the details. The Task Force had some general agreements that the state should seek a forty eight thousand dollar average salary for teachers, and it would take about seventy five million dollars to get there, but didn’t provide many details on how to achieve those goals.
Dan Swartos is the Superintendent at McCook Central in Salem, and says he isn’t sure of the outcome of the Task Force………….
The Task Force talked of restrictions on how the new money could be spent. Swartos says he doesn’t think any school board would have a problem with that…………
Swartos says he is waiting to see how the money is structured and where it comes from…………
There is concern that some of the money for teacher pay could be moved from funds used for pension plans and capital outlay.
