This year’s session of the South Dakota Legislature revised some old statutes, and that means school districts may have to change their hiring practices.

Paul Van Olson, a lawyer working for the Yankton School District, told the school board this week that military veterans have had hiring preference in most areas of state and local government………

Van Olson says the preference extends to several types of military service and experience…………

Van Olson says military experience could be a tie breaker in a hiring decision…………

Van Olson says all school districts will have to revise their hiring practices to comply with state law.
