SD Sales Tax Increase Fails by One Vote

A bill to raise the state sales tax by half a cent failed by one vote in the South Dakota House Thursday.
The money is crucial to Governor Dennis Daugaards plan to raise teacher pay in the state.
Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says it was a tough vote for many in the chamber…..

Hunhoff voted for the sales tax increase….

Hunhoff, a member of the Appropriations Committee, says there isn’t replacement money in the proposed budget….

The vote on the sales tax may be reconsidered on Monday.
