The bill containing a half cent sales tax increase will be on the South Dakota Senate floor on Monday. It took two votes to get the bill moved out of the House.
It is the funding portion of Governor Dennis Daugaard’s plan to raise teacher pay. It would raise about one hundred million dollars a year, with about sixty million going to raise average teacher pay to forty eight thousand dollars a year. The other forty million would go to property tax relief.

Brown says he doesn’t know if the bill will be amended in the Senate…..
Legislators have a three day weekend, and will return to the last two full weeks of the session.
