A flat enrollment trend at South Dakota’s universities points to the necessity of a needs based scholarship.
Enrollment this year was reported to be up one third of one percent at the six state universities.
Board of Regents President Bob Sutton of Sioux Falls says they are backing a new scholarship program, “Dakotas Promise”…………
The program would cost about three and a half million dollars, and fill a funding gap for more students.
Sutton says they have seen more of the costs of running the university system shift to students…..
Sutton says the stagnant enrollment also shows the need for a new scholarship program…..
The program would increase in scale to fund scholarships for almost six thousand students, at an annual cost of ten million dollars.
