A major rail project in South Dakota began operation last year as traffic was restored on the MRC line from Chamberlain west to Presho. That was a nearly thirty-million-dollar upgrade to a line that had not seen service since the 1980s.
The state Railroad Board has more projects in the development stage.
Board Chairman Todd Yeaton says they are working with a rail line along the South Dakota – Iowa border…..

Yeaton says funding will determine how much they can approve this year….

Yeaton says another rail line in northeast South Dakota came back on line last year…..

Yeaton says they may have to approach the legislature for funding help with a rail bridge project over the Sioux River north of Elk Point.
