The South Dakota Railroad Board took steps this week that should extend rail service further west on the Napa – Platte line.
Rail Board Chairman Todd Yeaton of Kimball says they approved a lease with a rail company to upgrade and operate the line…..

Yeaton says they hope to extend the rail connection into Charles Mix County…..

The segment of line from Napa Junction in Yankton County west is still owned by the state.
Yeaton says while they are leasing the line directly to the Dakota Southern Railroad, the Napa – Platte Regional Rail Authority is still involved…..

Yeaton says with needed repairs, rail service to Tabor could be active by late November.
