Officials with the South Dakota Department of Transportation and members of the State Railroad Board appeared before the Government Operations and Audit Committee of the legislature Monday in Redfield.
Questions had been raised about the condition of the MRC rail line from Mitchell west, and if the operator, Dakota Southern, was living up to its contract.
Rail Board Chairman Todd Yeaton told the committee that they want to see improvements on that line……

Yeaton says problems with the line have developed over time….

Yeaton, in answering a question from Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, says they inspected all of the state owned rail facilities…

Dakota Southern operator Mike Williams told the committee they are aware of the issues, and are working to fix them. The Rail Board gave the rail company ninety days to make needed repairs.
