South Dakota Public Utilities Commission Chairman Chris Nelson was reelected this week with the biggest vote margin of any statewide candidate.
He got over seventy five percent of the vote, with a total of just under two hundred sixty-nine thousand votes, over democratic challenger Henry Red Cloud.
Nelson says that was a surprising result…..

Nelson says the PUC in South Dakota may get more attention that regulatory commissions in other states….

Nelson says the commission takes a fact based approach to any utility rate cast in front of them…..

Nelson was Secretary of State for eight years before taking a run at the states republican Congressional nomination. He was then appointed to the PUC by Governor Dennis Daugaard in 2011. He was then elected to fill the final four years of that term in 2012.
