SD Minimum Wage Increases

The minimum wage in South Dakota rose to eight fifty five an hour on January first. That was the result of an initiated measure passed by voters in 2014. That wage will continue to rise each year based on the consumer price index.
The South Dakota Retailers Association opposed the wage hike issue during the campaign, and Executive Director Shawn Lyons says they have heard from their members about the increases…

Lyons says they don’t have any plans to ask for any changes in the law at this point……

Lyons says low unemployment is driving the minimum wage higher than the state level in many areas.
He says they will continue to watch the impacts as the consumer price index increases each year…..

Another initiated measure related to the youth minimum wage will be on the November ballot.
