SD Medical Students Get Their Match

Medical students at the University of South Dakota, Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Yankton had their “Match Day” last Friday.

After four years of learning, training and testing, medical students about to graduate are assigned residencies that help them focus on a medical specialty.

Dean of the Yankton campus, Dr. Lori Hansen on the matching process..

Hansen says students have a good idea of which specialty they want to enter into at the start of the match process..

Hansen says it’s always rewarding to hear from students after their residencies are completed…

Hansen says no other event in higher education rivals “match day,” in the level of anticipation, anxiety, hopefulness and celebration.
