With changes in Federal and state law, there are thousands of people losing and possibly gaining Medicaid insurance coverage.
Federal law changes allowed states to “unwind” or drop people that gained Medicaid coverage during the pandemic. A constitutional amendment passed by South Dakota voters last year expanded Medicaid coverage as of July first.
Assistant Department of Social Services Secretary Brenda Tidball appeared before the interim Appropriations Committee of the South Dakota legislature last week. She said they have opened up applications for the expanded Medicaid…

Tidball says they have added about seventeen hundred new Medicaid recipiants in the first few weeks….

Tidball says about fifty three thousand people lost their coverage as of July first..

Legislators also questioned Tidball about the staffing needed to deal with the expansion and any indications of fraud in the program.
