Wind energy projects deliver electricity to consumers and can also produce tax revenues to local and state governments.
Lu Nelsen is a policy associate at the Center for Rural Affairs (in Lyons Nebraska)…..
Nelsen says under South Dakota law, a wind power facility pays taxes even on a calm day…
That law distributes fifty percent of wind power taxes to schools, thirty five percent to counties and fifteen percent to townships.
Nelsen says that revenue comes off a relatively small piece of land….
Nelsen says as technology changes; new larger wind generators and blades may mean more electricity from fewer towers.
