Bills to expand the rural water system continue to be alive after crossover day in the South Dakota Legislature. South Dakota Secretary of Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hunter Roberts says they are excited about SB 62 and being able to provide water in underserved rural areas and help attract new agricultural production and processing.
He says they already have a cooperative water project in the works called WINS or Water Investment in Northern South Dakota where many of the rural water systems will work together to expand capacity. Roberts says these entities would not have the money independently for this size of a water project and the hope is for increased economic development in that area.
