The South Dakota House State Affairs Committee narrowly passed a bill that would allow people with an enhanced concealed weapons permit to possess those weapons in the state Capital and any county courthouse.
Enhanced conceal carry permits require extra training and a background check.

The bill was opposed by the governor’s office, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety and the state sheriff’s association. All expressed concerns about people with limited training becoming involved in an active shooter situation. Those fears were echoed by committee member, Representative Spence Hawley of Brookings..

The bill passed on a 7-6 vote and moves on to the house floor.
