Thursday, the South Dakota Legislature gave final approval to funding legislation that will support construction of the precision agriculture building at South Dakota State University. The funding stands at $16.6 million from donations, $11 million from the university budget and the remaining $2 million from public bonds. South Dakota Association of Cooperatives Executive Director Brenda Forman says the $2 million is one-time money from the legislature.
She says much of the support for the precision ag project has come from agriculture.
Forman says lawmakers strongly backed the legislation with the Senate voting 30 to 2 for the measure and the House 50 to 15 in favor of the bill.
The total cost of the precision agriculture building is around $45 million as lawmakers were unable to find $9 million for renovating two floors of Berg Agricultural Hall.
