SD Legislators Waiting on Sales Tax Hike

As lawmakers return to Pierre following the three day weekend, much of the discussion will center on the Governor’s plan to raise the sales tax by half a cent to increase teacher pay.
Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says there are all kinds of opinions right now…..

Hunhoff, a member of the Appropriations Committee, says she hasn’t made a decision on supporting the tax increase…..

Hunhoff says there is the possibility of an alternate funding plan to pay for those raises…

It would take about seventy five million dollars a year to bring average teacher pay up to forty eight thousand dollars.
