South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard says the numbers now add up to make Medicaid expansion cost effective for the state. He had opposed expansion in the past because of what the state share may be, but has been negotiating with the Indian Health Service to pick up the state’s share.
The Governor says he has been talking to legislators, and would call a special session if he feels he has the numbers.
Senator Bill Van Gerpen of Tyndall says he hasn’t gotten a call…………
Van Gerpen has been doubtful about the expansion, and that hasn’t changed….
Van Gerpen, who is not running for re-election this fall, says he is willing to listen to the debate again…..
Medicaid expansion would extend health insurance coverage to about fifty thousand people.
