SD Legislators to Talk Education, but Not Taxes

South Dakota legislators changed the education funding formula in this year’s session as part of the deal that raised the state sales tax a half cent.
Some of those changes shortchanged some rural districts, based on their teacher – student ratio.

Senator-elect Jim Bolin of Canton, the incoming Chairman of the Education Committee, says he wants to hear about those situations…..

Bolin says he has heard from some of those rural districts that fell short on funding…..

Bolin says while they will talk about education next session, they will not be talking more taxes…

The half-cent sales tax increase was used to push average teacher pay to about forty eight thousand dollars.
