South Dakota lawmakers approved new rules governing the use of lakes that have flooded onto private land for recreation during the special session Monday.

It took all day for legislators to agree on the final version.
Representative Elizabeth May of Kyle voted no on the bill. She says there is more than the loss of business involved…..

May says the bill ignores property rights…..

Much of the dispute was over the sunset clause, which was amended to next year, instead of 2020.

Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot supported the bill in the end….

Frerichs says the issue will be back in front of them in January…..

The law, signed by the Governor, immediately restores access to nearly thirty lakes that were closed after a state Supreme Court decision.
