SD Legislators Push Back on IM22

The provisions of IM22 passed by South Dakota voters last month are still creating issues for state legislators and others. The measure sets up rules on contacts between lobbyists and lawmakers, and would create a state ethics commission, and mandate public financing of state campaigns.
Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton, incoming Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, says it is hitting during a critical period for legislators…..

Stevens says he believes several sections are unconstitutional…..

Several lawmakers have joined a lawsuit seeking to overturn several of the restrictive portions of the measure.
Stevens says there are some spending provisions which are also seem to be unconstitutional……

The first court hearing on the injunction request is this week.
