While much attention in the South Dakota Legislature is focused on teacher pay and sales taxes, at least one lawmaker says they also have to look at rising property taxes.
Senator Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says the school funding crunch this year was planted several years ago….

As part of the teacher pay plan, Governor Dennis Daugaard has suggested using forty million dollars raised from the half cent sales tax increase as property tax relief.
Hunhoff says that is far too little money to have much impact…

Property tax bills for the year are just now being mailed out from counties across the state.
