South Dakota representatives debated a bill in special session that would open about thirty lakes that have been closed to fishing due to a Supreme Court ruling. The non-meandered lakes are those that flooded onto private land in the 1980s and 90s.
Republican Representative Lee Qualm of Platte was Chairman of the committee that wrote the bill……
Democrat Representative Spencer Hawley of Brookings says the bill is a compromise…..
The bill passed the House on a 52 to 16 vote, clearing the two thirds majority level to become law on the Governors signature. It now goes to the Senate.
