SD Legislators Get Update on Revenues & Estimates

The Joint Appropriations Committee of the South Dakota legislature got updated revenue reports and projections just ahead of the start of the legislative session.

Mark Quasney, a fiscal analyst with the Bureau of Finance and Management told the members that sales taxes are falling short of projections..

Quasney says they are projecting a rebound in sales taxes and other revenue sources this year…

Quasney says they looked back ten years at average sales tax growth per year….

Quasney says there will be some adjustments before legislators get to the bottom line for spending…..

The committee will use the numbers to begin assembling the 2021 budget. They will get updated revenue projections just before the end of the session in March.
