The special session of the South Dakota legislature this week will be focused on collecting taxes from online retail sales. Schools will be focused on the outcome.
Yankton School Superintendent Wayne Kindle says districts can’t continue to provide all the educational services on the small state aid increases they have been seeing….

Kindle says while the half cent sales tax increase funded teacher pay raises, those are not static costs….

Kindle says there were many legislators that said the half cent sales tax increase was not necessary….

Estimates of additional sales taxes range from very little to fifty million dollars.
