The South Dakota House last week approved HB1008, a bill that would restrict trans-gender students’ access to bathrooms in public schools, by a margin of 58 to 10.
Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton voted for the bill…..

Stevens says he doesn’t think the bill discriminates against trans-gender students…..

Senator Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says passing those type of bills sends strong messages….

Hunhoff says even if that and other gender related bills are killed, damage is being done…..

Some of the gender bills are being pushed by out of state groups. Hunhoff says it is unfortunate the state gets caught in the middle of that.

Both lawmakers took part in the District 18 legislative forum Saturday in Yankton.
