South Dakota legislative democrats say they appreciate the education funding proposals from Governor Dennis Daugaard, but they will push for more.
The Governor, in his State of the State speech, called for a half cent increase in the state sales tax to fund the teacher pay improvement plan that came out of the Blue Ribbon Task Force.
Senate Minority Leader Billie Sutton of Burke says they agree with the Governor on his priority…..

Sutton says they differ with the Governor on his student to teacher ratio plan….

Sutton says their plan would cost more…..

The Governor also wants to use forty million dollars of the sales tax raised for property tax relief. The democrats say that would not make a significant difference to property owners.
