SD Legislative Committee Tables Industrial Hemp Production Bill

The South Dakota Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee took almost ninety minutes of testimony and debate today on a bill that would legalize the production and sale of industrial hemp.
Matt Sibley with the South Dakota Farmers Union says they support the bill because it would give ag producers another income option…..

Kyle Holt, Deputy State Ag Secretary, says it would be a dangerous option for farmers…..

A motion to send the bill to the Senate floor failed on a vote of three to six. Then a motion to table the bill was passed on a vote of seven to two. Legislators have only five more days left in the session, so there may not be time to bring the bill back for another vote.
