A South Dakota legislative committee is beginning the effort to find a compromise that would allow sportsmen and land owners to both benefit from flooded lakes.
The state Supreme Court ruled that the legislature has to find a solution to the conflict. In response, the Game, Fish & Parks Department closed public boat access to twenty-five lakes.
In the hearing in Pierre Thursday GF&P Wildlife Division Director Tony Lief explained to the committee how those lakes were chosen…..
Lief said the Supreme Court was clear in its ruling…..
Game Fish & Parks Director Kelly Hepler says they are not taking sides in the dispute…..
Governor Dennis Daugaard has said he may call a special session of the legislature if the committee can come up with a workable solution.
